Hammond Area Recreation DepartmentThe Hammond Area Recreation Department (HARD) offers a number of activities for the young and the young-at-heart. HARD offers organized programs for youth baseball, men’s softball, girls’ softball, coed volleyball, flag football, youth basketball, adult basketball, swimming and tennis. Volunteers help coach and organize the leagues, but these programs are under the direct supervision of HARD. For our senior citizens, HARD has a yearly program that offers cultural and physical activities. HARD has a fulltime senior coordinator who plans and facilitates activities and trips.South Tangipahoa Youth Soccer AssociationThe South Tangipahoa Youth Soccer Association (STYSA) is an independent organization whose goal is to provide the youth of Tangipahoa with recreational and competitive soccer games. Currently, STYSA has over 60 teams with players ranging in age from 4 to 18.Hammond Little Conference Football LeagueThe Hammond Little Conference Football League is another independent organization that sponsors an organized football league for the Hammond youth. Games are played in the fall.Skateboard ParkCapitalizing on the rise in interest of skateboarding, the City of Hammond built one of the Gulf South’s finest skateboard Parks. This park attracts skateboard enthusiasts from across the country as well as local skateboarders.GolfThere are many opportunities for the serious and recreational golfer. Oak Knoll Country Club is a private course in Hammond and the Golf Center features a par three course and driving range. Within a 30-minute drive from Hammond, Carter Plantation features a David Toms’ PGA Signature Golf Course in Springfield and Springview Country Club is an 18-hole golf course in Amite.Sportsman's ParadiseLouisiana is the Sportsman’s Paradise and Hammond is the hub of outdoor activity in Tangipahoa Parish.There is ample opportunity for water sports, fishing and boating in and around Hammond. For cyclists, the surrounding landscape offers the opportunity to cycle in some of the prettiest and safest environments in the state. Enjoy Hammond—outdoors! |
